Print Media:

Creating Your Own Graphics & Images

There are some quick and easy ways to add some great looking, customized images to your print media. First, you need a good graphics editing program. I am currently using Adobe Photoshop Elements. This is the low end photo editing program from Adobe. It is a limited version of the full Photoshop program but has many of the great tools that makes Photoshop so popular. Some day I hope to have the full version, but it's still a bit pricy for my budget. You can create images from scratch, by drawing them or by adding to your digital photographs. You can add text, shapes and other photo images to create eye catching images. The "Publicizing your Children's Ministry" logo at the top, along with all the logos on this site were created using Photoshop Elements. It is simply an image from Microsoft's online image database, two text elements with differing font styles and colors and a white, rectangle shape with a black outline. That's it.

Another great resource to make incredible, customized graphics is using Digital Juice's Juice Drops. Juice Drops are layered pictures that you can open up in Photoshop. Once you've opened the image, you can turn on and off each piece of the picture and move things around. For example, you might have a picture of a scuba diver and a treasure chest on the bottom of the ocean. In Photoshop, you can hide or move the diver, or the treasure chest. You can add your own text. It's really up to your own creativity. Oh, and all of the images are royalty-free.

A digital camera is a real must if you want to create your own ministry specific graphics and images. You can take the pictures and over lay text advertising your class, ministry or event. Be sure to take good quality pictures. The larger your image, the better it will look when it is used. The more mega pixels the better.
