I can remember the first few years of my ministry, praying people wouldn't realize I had no idea what I was doing. That often I was way over my head. Years later, I received an email from a new Children's Minister fresh from school who had the same thoughts and worries. He, like myself, was thinking video cameras and DVD burners in a world of flannel graph and popsicle sticks. That got me thinking that one day I would put together something helpful for the new Children's Minister at his/her first ministry. I know how valuable it would have been back in 1997 to have someone to talk with and share ideas. Years later, I met up with other Children's minister from my town at a Children's Pastor's Conference in Dallas, Texas. We decided it was a shame that we had to leave town to meet each other. That week we put together our own local Children's Ministry Network. Our goal was simply to get together once a month for lunch and share with each other and talk. That network has truly been a life-savor for us over the years. We come from different backgrounds, churches and denominations but we unite around two things, 1) Jesus Christ our Savior and 2) a love for ministering to children. Everything else can be set aside. So, this page will be the start of the MY FIRST MINISTRY resource section. I hope it develops into something that is helpful to someone. If there is an issue, subject or whatever that you think would be helpful, don't hesitate to send me a note and I'll work on it. I'm hoping to draw from my fellow local children's ministers for input and help.
