Most puppetry will take place behind some type of stage. This section will
show you some of the stages out there and some things you can do yourself. Props
also help a beginner puppet skit take a giant leap forward to something you
could be proud of. Props and stage don't have to be complicated to be effective.
Portable Puppetry Stage
Our first portable stage design came from the book
Puppets: Ministry Magic by
Dale & Liz VonSeggen. It is made up of a PVC pipe frame with wooden bases
for each leg and a cloth curtain. I picked a darker curtain color (green) that
would work for black light shows as well as regular puppet performances. It has
three levels and is pretty flexible with ceiling heights. To see pictures

Our Current Stage
Our current stage came from One Way Street and is constructed on telescoping,
aluminum tripods with expandable aluminum cross bars. It has a lined curtain
that make black light skit look fantastic. This stage is one of the more
expensive items I've ever purchased, but it is by far the most versatile, useful
and eye catching stage I've seen. When not a puppet stage, I use the pieces for
back drops and quick room dividers. I've also grabbed to tripods and a crossbar
and hung my children's ministry banner on it a fairs and conferences.
Camp Set
We built a puppet set for our Camp themed VBS this year. It consisted of a
standard PVC pipe puppet stage and wooden trees on both sides and across the
top. For specifics on the trees and pictures click
